LCD Televisions
Liquid-crystal display televisions (LCD TV) are color television sets that use LCD technology to produce images. LCD televisions are thinner and lighter than CRTs of similar display size, and are available in much larger sizes as well. This combination of features made LCDs more practical than CRTs for many roles, and as manufacturing costs fell their eventual dominance of the television market was all but guaranteed. In 2007 LCD televisions surpassed sales of CRT-based televisions worldwide for the first time, and its sales figures relative to other technologies is accelerating. LCD TVs are quickly displacing the only major competitors in the large-screen market, the plasma display panel and rear-projection television. LCDs are, by far, the most widely produced and sold television technology today, pushing all other technologies into niche roles.
Plasma flat screen technology consists of hundreds of thousands of individual pixel cells, which allow electric pulses to excite rare natural gases-usually xenon and neon-causing them to glow and produce light. This light illuminates the proper balance of red, green, or blue phosphors contained in each cell to display the proper color sequence from the light. Each pixel cell is essentially an individual microscopic florescent light bulb, receiving instruction from software contained on the rear electrostatic silicon board. Look very closely at a plasma TV and you can actually see the individual pixel cell coloration of red, green, and blue bars. You can also see the black ribs which separate each.

Sony KDL-55XBR8 Review
The picture is certainly excellent especially the black levels, and viewing angles which are so important to viewing pleasure. Color information while not the best we've seen was also good. Drawbacks include the cabinet depth at 6 inches, the surprising poor audio quality from the built in speakers, and the occasional scaling mistake from lower resolutions.Sony does not give a clear option for accessing the 120Hz processing. Instead, they give a few advanced picture settings such as Motion Enhancer and Game Modes. So, it was impossible to know whether we were viewing images in 60Hz or 120Hz.

Sharp LC-52D65U Review
The Sharp LC-52D65U is a middle tier product with ample features and solid performance from a 1st tier manufacturer. The LCD was first introduced in fall of 2008 and is current through the end of 2009. The Sharp D65U fared better than average in up conversion processing and input options for this price point, while disappointing somewhat in viewing angle. Our contrast measurement did not match up with Sharp's claimed contrast ratio of 10,000:1 instead resulting in a post calibration contrast ratio measurement of 101:1.

Samsung LN52A850 Review
The LN52A850 is the newest high end TV in Samsungs Winter 2008/2009 lineup. One of the key feature differences is the new DLNA compliance certification of this TV over the LN52A750. Another big feature difference is the slim 1.9" cabinet housing. It certainly looks sleek on the table stand. The Touch of Color red accents remain on this series. The 120Hz refresh rate feature is still present as well. Find out in the full review how we rate all these features. The LN52A850 is quite attractive at only 1.9" depth its one of the thinnest on the market. The Touch of Color is nice and classy. The bezel frame is a little large for me at 2.75" on top and bottom.
